Surf Camps in Lampung

Lampung, on the southern tip of Sumatra, is an uncrowded surfing paradise. It offers a raw, adventurous surf experience with world-class waves without the Bali crowds. From heavy barrels to long point breaks, there's something for every experienced s

Welcome to the Wild Waves of Lampung

Lampung is Sumatra's untamed surf frontier. If you're looking to escape the crowds and find world-class waves in a raw, natural setting, this is your spot. The vibe here is all about the surf. Think dense jungles meeting the Indian Ocean, with a handful of surf camps scattered along the coast near the main town of Krui. It's a world away from the hustle of Bali, offering a more adventurous and authentic Indonesian surf trip.

The Waves: A Surfer's Playground

Lampung's coastline is a goldmine of surf spots, with a great variety of waves. The region is best known for its consistent and powerful reef breaks.

  • Ujung Bocur: This is the most well-known spot, a super long left-hand point break that can offer rides of over 200 meters. It's a wave machine and works on all tides.
  • Way Jambu: Also known as the "Sumatran Pipeline," this is a heavy, barreling left-hander that breaks over a shallow reef. It's a world-class wave for experienced surfers only.
  • Mandiri Beach: A long stretch of beach break that offers powerful, punchy peaks. It can be a good option when other spots are too big or crowded.
  • Krui Reefs: The area around Krui has a number of other quality reef breaks, including Krui Left, Krui Right, and The Peak.

Best Time to Surf

The prime surf season in Lampung runs from April to October. This is the dry season, and the Indian Ocean is consistently pumping out groundswell. The peak months are typically June, July, and August, when you can expect the biggest and most consistent waves. The shoulder months of April, May, September, and October can also be great, with fewer people and still plenty of swell.

Who is it for?

Lampung is best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers. The waves are powerful and many of the best spots break over sharp, shallow reefs. While there are a few more forgiving waves, it's not the ideal place to learn to surf. If you're comfortable in powerful waves and looking for a challenge, you'll be in heaven.

What Makes Lampung Special?

It's the sense of adventure and discovery. You won't find any big resorts or nightlife here. What you will find is a pristine coastline, a friendly local community, and some of the best waves of your life. It's a place to disconnect from the world and reconnect with the ocean.
