Surf Camps in Las Palmas

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria offers a unique blend of vibrant city life and world-class surfing. From the beginner-friendly waves of La Cicer to the legendary barrels of El Confital, this European surf capital has something for every surfer.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a unique European surf destination, blending a vibrant city atmosphere with a laid-back surf culture. The heart of the action is around the northern coast, particularly the La Isleta headland, where you can find a mix of world-class waves and beginner-friendly spots all within a short distance. The city itself is a bustling hub of activity, so when you're not in the water, you can explore the local tapas bars, shops, and cultural attractions. While there can be some localism at the more challenging breaks, the overall vibe is welcoming, especially at the more popular and beginner-oriented spots.

The Waves

Las Palmas offers a diverse range of waves, catering to all skill levels. The most famous spots are concentrated around the La Isleta peninsula. For beginners, La Cicer is the go-to spot. Located at the southern end of Playa de Las Canteras, it offers mellow, mushy waves that are perfect for learning. For more experienced surfers, El Confital is a legendary right-hand reef break that produces some of the best barrels in Europe on a good day. Other notable spots include Los Muellitos, an intermediate-friendly left-hand break, and Lloret, a consistent right-hander that can also barrel. The north coast of Gran Canaria is where the action is, with a variety of reef and beach breaks that come alive during the winter months.

When to Go

Las Palmas boasts year-round surfing, but the best conditions are typically found during the winter months, from September to April. This is when the powerful North Atlantic swells roll in, lighting up the reefs and points along the north coast. The water temperature rarely drops below 19°C, so a 3/2mm wetsuit is usually sufficient. Summer brings smaller, more forgiving waves, making it an ideal time for beginners and intermediates to visit. The consistent sunshine and warm weather make it a great year-round destination for a surf trip.

Who is it for?

Las Palmas is a destination that truly has something for everyone. Beginners will feel right at home at La Cicer, with its gentle waves and numerous surf schools. Intermediates can test their skills at spots like Los Muellitos and the less-crowded breaks along the north coast. Advanced surfers will be drawn to the challenge of El Confital and other heavy reef breaks. The city's vibrant nightlife and cultural attractions also make it a great destination for surfers who want more than just waves.

What makes it special?

What makes Las Palmas truly unique is its combination of world-class urban surfing and a rich cultural experience. You can be surfing a perfect barrel in the morning and exploring a historic Spanish city in the afternoon. The variety of waves, the year-round consistency, and the vibrant city life make it a one-of-a-kind surf destination. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, Las Palmas has something to offer.
