The Waves
Canggu's coastline is dotted with a variety of surf spots, each with its own character.
-
Batu Bolong: This is the go-to spot for beginners and longboarders. The waves are mellow, long, and forgiving, making it the perfect place to learn or just enjoy a cruisey session. You'll find a friendly and encouraging crowd here.
-
Echo Beach: A short paddle from Batu Bolong, Echo Beach offers a more challenging wave. It's a reef break with a fast, powerful left-hander that's best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers. When it's on, it's one of the best waves in the area.
-
Berawa Beach: This beach break offers a mix of lefts and rights, and it's generally less crowded than Batu Bolong and Echo Beach. It's a good option for all levels, depending on the swell.
Best Time to Surf
The prime surf season in Canggu is during the dry season, from April to October. During these months, you can expect consistent swells and offshore winds, creating perfect surfing conditions. The wet season (November to March) can still have good days, but the waves are often less consistent and the weather can be unpredictable.
Skill Levels
Canggu truly has something for everyone. Beginners will feel right at home at Batu Bolong, where there are plenty of surf schools and instructors to help you get started. Intermediate surfers can test their skills at Berawa and Echo Beach, while advanced surfers will find plenty of challenges at Echo Beach and other nearby reef breaks.
